New season of the Manoel Theatre

On the 30th September will start the new season, 2011/2012, of the Manoel Theatre in Valletta. The  theater was built in 1731, in just ten months thanks to Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, Grand Master of the Knights of Malta, who financed the project.

About three centuries of history of the maltese theatre enclosed within these walls. Once again starts a wonderful theatrical season (the full program can be downloaded from: http://www . teatrumanoel.com.mt /? m = news & id = 279 ). 

The tickets are already available online (http://booking.mcc.com.mt/Event/1095/) to attend the concert for the Unification of Italy, a concert of Italian operatic music of brilliant authors like Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini, Verdi and Catalani. The soprano Lucia Aliberti, accompanied by Malta Philarminic Orchestra and directed by Brian Schembri will hold the opening concert of the season. In collaboration with the Italian Embassy and Italian Cultural Institute.

The concerts will continue throughout the season: the programme consists of 12 events in October, 13 in November, 16 in December, 15 in January and February, 13 in March and April and finally, 7 in the month of May.
The season will end on the 25th May 2011 and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra will complete its fourth season in style with all-British Gillian Zammit singing “Les Illuminations” by Britten, with the direction of Michael Laus, followed by the leader Marcelline Agius who will perform solo and the evening will end with the Enigma Variations of Elgar’s.
