EUREKA - opportunities for business

EUREKAEUREKA opportunities are here to help your business if:

  • it would like to diversify its revenue streams, networks and markets in due course
  • it seeks to develop new products, processes or services in collaboration with foreign partners / experts
  • (i.e. Malta participant and at least one other independent entity from another EUREKA country may form a EUREKA project)
  • innovation is considered in various areas (such as Artificial Intelligence, Advanced Materials, Healthy Ageing and other themes as can be proposed by project participants themselves)
  • business would like to secure assistance of up to 40%-60% towards Malta participant eligible project costs (such as personnel costs, use of instruments and equipment, contractual research and others).

Malta Enterprise supports Malta based businesses (mainly companies, but partnerships and cooperatives may also be considered) in EUREKA projects participation.

EUREKA Clusters Artificial Intelligence Call

EUREKA helps creation of new products and revenue streams through collaborative applied research and innovation projects. Malta companies seeking funding support are invited to participate in EUREKA Clusters Artificial Intelligence Call with proposals to be submitted by 15 June 2020.

The international consortium should include at least two (for profit) independent companies from two of the participating countries. Research institutes and universities may join in subject to each country’s funding regulations. A brokerage tool forms part of the call website to facilitate a Project Idea and Partner search.

Project proposals should not exceed 36 months in duration and be relevant to the field of Artificial Intelligence with a non-exclusive list of possible application areas for this Call provided below:

  • AI for eHealth
  • AI for Electronic Components and Systems

EUREKA Multilateral call on Advanced Materials

EUREKA helps creation of new products and revenue streams through collaborative applied research and innovation projects. Malta companies, interested in collaborative research, development and innovation projects, are invited to consider Multilateral EUREKA call on Advanced Materials and present their proposals by the 30th of June 2020.

The international consortium should include at least two (for profit) independent companies from two of the participating countries. Research institutes and universities may join in subject to each country’s funding regulations. Search for EUREKA international partner may be facilitated in cases where Malta businesses would have a project idea but not a partner.

The applied research and innovation project proposals should not exceed 36 months in duration and be relevant to the following thematic domains within the field of Advanced Materials:

(1) Semiconductors and Display

(2) Secondary Batteries and Sensor Technology, including

  •  Energy Storage

(3) Carbon Industry and Chemistry, including

  • Lightweight Materials, Composites and Recycle of Plastics
  • Nano Materials and Plastic materials

(4) Machinery, Robots, and Metal Industry

EUREKA Multilateral Call on Healthy Ageing

EUREKA helps creation of new products and revenue streams through collaborative applied research and innovation projects. Companies seeking funding support are invited to participate in EUREKA Multilateral call on Healthy Ageing with proposals to be submitted by 5 August 2020.

The international consortium should include at least two (for profit) independent companies from two of the participating countries. Research institutes and universities may join in subject to each country’s funding regulations. Interested parties are invited to use a matchmaking site for project idea and partner search.

The applied research and innovation project proposals should not exceed 36 months in duration and be relevant to development of digital health tools and smart devices to promote healthy ageing. These can include (but are not limited to):

  • connecting robotics and medical imaging systems to simplify surgical procedures
  • software as a medical device (or diagnostic) incorporating artificial intelligence
  • software for better diagnostics or therapy 
  • digital health and smart drug delivery services
  • linking big data capabilities with new knowledge from precision medicine to create precision health offerings that promotes preventive interventions before symptoms of disease manifest.

Eurostars Call 

Eurostars is the European funding programme specifically dedicated to support R&D-performing SMEs in their innovative R&D projects. To be eligible, the consortium must include at least two legal entities independent of each other with the main partner being an R&D – performing SME(s) andhaving at least 50% of the total project budget (excluding subcontracting). Other criteria apply as per Full Eligibility Guidelines.

Malta companies, seeking funding support are invited to participate in upcoming Eurostars call with proposals to be submitted via Eurostars platform by 3 September 2020.

A Eurostars project proposal should not exceed 36 months in duration and can address any technological area for any market, but must have a civilian purpose and be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service. With its bottom-up approach, Eurostars stimulates international collaborative research and innovation projects that will be rapidly commercialised. Search for an international partner may be facilitated in cases where Malta businesses would have a project idea but not a partner.

EUREKA Network Projects

Network Projects are market-driven innovative R&D projects, devised and run by an international consortium consisting of at least two independent legal entities from different EUREKA countries. Such consortium will define the technology to be developed and how the project comes together as a whole. Participation can take many forms with international collaborators composed of small, medium or large companies; universities or research centres.

Proposals should not exceed 36 months in duration and can address any technological area for any market, but must have a civilian purpose and be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service. No single undertaking participating in the project should bear more than 70% of the eligible project costs. With its bottom-up approach, Network projects offer a lot of flexibility as can be seen on example of various projects carried out to date. Search for an international partner may be facilitated in cases where Malta businesses would have a project idea but not a partner.
