Copia-di-Black-Friday-Saldi-Abbigliamento-Instagram-PostA total of 121 people were fined €100 each on Monday for being in groups of more than three, a figure that is even higher than that registered on Easter Sunday.

Gatherings of more than three were outlawed as part of the measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The government said in its daily COVID-19 bulletin that 430 inspections had been carried out in the last 24 hours and no one was found breaking mandatory quarantine.

Monday's figure is one of the highest since the rule come into foce at the end of March, surpassing even that of Easter Sunday, when a total of 104 people had been fined.

The fines issued on Monday came a day after the health authorities announced on Sunday that no new coronavirus cases were registered overnight. Despite the good news, announced by Health Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci, the authorities have insisted social distancing measures still needed to be followed.
