Malta Employment Data May 2023In September 2023, the annual inflation rate measured by the RPI was 4.1%, up from 4.0% in August 2023.

 The highest annual inflation rates in September 2023 were recorded in Food (8.8%) and Housing (8.1%). On the other hand, the lowest annual inflation rates were observed in the Transport and Communication sectors (-2.1%) and Water, Electricity, Gas, and Fuels (0.0%).

In September 2023, the largest positive impact on annual inflation was seen in the Food Index (+1.89 percentage points), largely due to the price increases of take-out food. The second and third most significant impacts were measured in the Housing Index (+0.64 percentage points) and the Other Goods and Services Index (+0.48 percentage points), mainly due to the price increases of house maintenance services and insurances, respectively.
A negative impact on annual inflation was recorded in the Transport and Communication Index (-0.45 percentage points), mainly reflecting lower prices for land transport services. In September, the Food Index recorded the highest annual inflation rate at 8.8%, of which Food excluding dining services and take-outs had an annual rate of 9.5%, and Dining services and take-outs had an annual rate of 6.7%.
The Transport and Communication Index recorded the lowest annual inflation rate of -2.1%, with Transport having an annual rate of -1.7% and Communication an annual rate of -3.4%.
