Malta: unemployment September 2022-2023 +4.9%
In September 2023, the number of persons registering for work stood at 1,004 increasing by 49 persons when compared to the corresponding month in 2022.
Data provided by Jobsplus for September 2023 indicate a year-on-year increase of 54 persons and a decrease of 5 persons registering under Part I and under Part II of the unemployment register respectively. Increases in the registered unemployment levels were recorded in the majority of the age groups, with the exception of those aged under 20 years old.
A year-on- year decrease of 42 persons and 27 persons was recorded among those registering for work for 21 to 52 weeks and for over one year respectively. On the other hand, the number of persons registering for work for under 21 weeks increased by 118.
In September 2023, the number of persons with a disability who were registering for work increased by 13 when compared to the previous year, reaching 234 persons. Males accounted for 76.5 per cent of total registrants with a disability.
The largest share of males and females on the unemployment register sought occupations as Clerical support workers, with 20.9 per cent and 37.6 per cent respectively.
