REGISTERED EMPLOYMENT: JANUARY 2020
Administrative data provided by Jobsplus shows that, over a period of one year, the labour supply (excluding part-timers) in January 2020 increased by 6.5 per cent, reaching 231,016 (see methodological note 5). This was mainly attributed to a year-on-year increase in the full-time registered employment (14,178) and a decline in registered unemployment (105) (Table 1).
Registered full-time employment
When January 2020 is compared to January 2019, the highest increase in employment was brought about by administrative and support service activities (NACE 77-82) and construction (NACE 41-43), with 2,804 and 2,051 respectively (Table 1).
Registered full-time employment in the private sector went up by 13,038 persons to 179,940. Public sector full-time employment increased by 1,140 persons to 49,385 (Table 2).
The number of persons registered as full-time self-employed rose by 1,456 when compared to January 2019, while the number of persons registered as employees increased by 12,722. Full-time employment for males and females went up by 6.4 per cent and 6.8 per cent respectively over 2019 levels (Table 2).
Registered part-time employment
Registered part-time employment in January 2020 went up by 6.3 per cent when compared to the same month in 2019. The overall increase was mainly generated by professional, scientifi c and technical activities (NACE 69-75, 697) and administrative and support service activities (NACE 77-82, 329) (Table 3). The number of part-timers who also held a full-time job amounted to 30,533 up by 10.6 per cent when compared to the corresponding month last year. Employed persons whose part-time job was their primary occupation totalled 34,510, up by 2.7 per cent when compared to 2019 (Table 4) ■
