ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS: Q3/2020

Statistiche-NSO-2The number of reported traffic accidents in the third quarter this year reached 3,167, down by 24.4 per cent over the same period in 2019. The Northern Harbour district registered the most accidents with 1,105 cases or 34.9 per cent of all accidents (Table 1).

Road traffic casualties decreased by 31.0 per cent to 310 over the same period in 2019. Grievously injured persons amounted to 66, and consisted of 35 drivers, 7 passengers and 24 pedestrians/cyclists/ other. The injuries suffered by four drivers proved fatal. During this quarter, one more fatality occurred when compared to the same period in 2019 (Table 4).

The majority of those grievously injured were males (65.2 per cent), accompanied with four male fatalities. The majority of casualties involved persons in the 26 to 40 age-bracket (Table 5).
